If you follow the world of fashion you’re probably familiar with blogs such as The Sartorialist and their ilk. Showcasing many a shade of young, hip, and odd clothing styles on the streets of New York, Paris, Milan, Tokyo, London, and other fashion hubs, it’s popular with the fashion conscious-hipster crowd. But China has a few blogs to contend as well. Most notably the Beijing fashion blog Stylites, but there’s also a newcomer to the scene: EyeStore. I was struck with their clean and crisp uniform style, but am not a fan of the big watermarks plastered across each image. Anyways, the photos give you a good glimpse into hipster fashion in southern China; being based in Guangzhou, with the occasional images from Shenzhen and Hong Kong. Dive into this interview to learn more about the photos, the fashion, and the creators.

Name: Kenny & LB (Our group includes two people)

Hometown: Guangzhou, China

Tell us about yourself:

We always tell to the others, we are not photographers, we’re just people who like taking photos.

How did you get started in photography?

 LB: I worked in a fashion magazine several years ago. Since then, I am in loved with photography.

 Kenny: LB has a influence on me. She makes me feel more and more interested in photography.

How did you get started shooting street fashion?

We started shooting street fashion in 2009. We have noticed that the street fashion had become a worldwide trend, but there is few people do this in China. So we did it.

Favorite camera and lens? Why?

LB: Olympus Mju II and its 35/2.8 lens. Mju II is small and sharp, definitely a excellet camara for snap shot.

Kenny: Nikon FM2 and 50/1.4. Love the big aperture and simple style.

If you could shoot anything, what would it be?

Kenny: A Woman I loved.

LB: Devil.

What’s your shooting style? Photographic influence?

Kenny: True-life and peaceful. Japanese Style photography affecting me.

LB: Realism. Moriyama Daido has a deep influence on me.

What’s your favorite photo that you’ve taken? 

Kenny: Two of my best friends, playing and laughing happily in ChiangMai. We’ve had a unforgetable time there.

LB: When travelling In HongKong, i had taken some snapshots in the city. One of those photos which a lonely girl standing in subway caught my eyes totally.

Big watermarks cutting through the subject, such as yours, are very rare on photography websites, even those of professionals. Why do you include them? 

What is the best thing about photography? Worst?

LB: The best thing is, I could see many things that I probably miss in life. Worst thing? None.

Kenny: Photography keeps me thinking and recalls my memory.

What’s your most memorable shooting experience?

Everytime is all memorable experience. Haha.

What does the future hold for you?

Taking more impressive photos.
