ARRI announces new ALEXA Mini

ARRI announced its new camera, the ALEXA Mini, last week promising to rid us of relying on “third-party cameras” for specialized shots that require smaller rigs, thereby eliminating the many problems filmmakers face in post. This lightweight, compact addition to the ALEXA family, has some impressive specs. With its specialized carbon body and solid titanium PL mount that connects directly to the titanium sensor mount, the Mini guarantees stable results no matter the lens. There’s no doubt about why ARRI brings its new product forward: competitors RED and Canon have made impressive feats in the world of compact cameras. In this case, ARRI is a little behind the times. But who can argue with the impressive image quality ALEXA cameras deliver? Now, even anamorphic productions will be attainable due to the Alexa Mini’s switchable 4:3/16:9 sensor and automatic de-squeeze function.
